Tuft test session by the Swedish DeTomaso Club

In our quest of knowledge about the efficiency of the GT5 delta wing we decided to assemble a small task force for some tuft testing. Click thumbnails to open a large pic in a new window.

The test object is Thomas Törnblom's '84 GT5

We started by decorating the car with yarn like this:

Then, off we went. These pics were taken at appr. 80-100 km/h.

For reference we did a somewhat less extensive test on Tomas Gunnarsson's narrow body Pantera.

While we were there anyway some other tests were done too.

It seems evident that no noticable amount of air exits through the hood grilles at speed.

This NACA type scoop actually will suck air into the fender. There is a yarn tuft taped inside the scoop that lies nice and flat aginst the body. Getting the air to where it is useful is another deal of course. Sorry about the picture quality but this was a last minute drive-by photo.
